Losing Love Handles

It has often been said that love handles are a natural part of aging. There could be nothing further from the truth. You don’t have to live with extra weight gain around the stomach.   It can be reduced with proper nutrition and exercise.  Losing love handles is something that can and should be done as excess abdominal weight can lead to serious health conditions.

You Are What You Eat

Proper nutrition is essential when losing love handles.  By consuming small meals throughout the day rather than eating 2 or 3 large ones, you can watch your weight decrease.  With the smaller meals, eat just enough to satisfy your hunger and then stop.

Don’t take this to the extreme though.  If you put off eating until you are starving, your body will take this as a sign that it needs to store fat.  This is counter-productive to what you are trying to accomplish.  Also, be sure to consume plenty of water as this will make your stomach feel full and allow you to eat less.

Get Moving

Exercise is of extreme importance when losing love handles.  Don’t just rely on spot exercises to reduce your stomach weight.  You need an approach that will target fat loss for the entire body, not just the abdominal region.  Running or jogging can allow you to lose weight, but can be counter productive to building muscle tissue that will help to burn the fat from your body.  Limit your running to two or three times per week, so that you don’t lose valuable muscle tissue.

Resistance training, such as weight lifting or body weight calisthenics, is a great way to build muscle and increase your heart rate, both of which will help speed up your fat loss.  If resistance training doesn’t interest you, find a hobby that will work your entire body.  Some good things to try are tennis, basketball, or any enjoyable activity that will get you moving your body.

Start Small

Don’t feel you are stuck with excess abdominal weight.  Losing love handles is possible and easy to do once your realize that this weight loss is not targeted just to the abdominal area.  By making simple lifestyle changes you can lose this weight. If you feel overwhelmed, start small.  Park farther away from a store and briskly walk in. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.  Eat smaller meals more frequently.  One that anyone can try is to carry a bottle of water with you at all times and take small sips.  Using all of these tips together will enable you to have the body you have always desired.
